Snugglers

I have started making baby cocoon (sacks, wraps, whatever name you would like to use there) and have called them "Snugglers."  It is pretty easy to do on the round looms, as it is just like making a hat except you make it longer.  I make them about 18-22 inches, keeping in consideration the amount that will bunch at the end when you cast off.  I have used both the basic e-wrap, purl stitch, and a modified e-wrap for the ones I have made so far.

The first attempt did produce a much smaller snuggler, and I would suggest be used for preemie and smaller newborns.  It was made on the red knifty knitter round loom, using a bulky 5 yarn.  I also made a small hat to match:

Here is my second snuggler, I have dubbed "Lemon Sunshine", this was done in the round again on the red knifty knitter loom, but instead using a 3 light worsted weight yarn and the purl stitch (here are a couple videos on purl stitch on the looms - PurlingSprite: http://www.youtube.com/watchv=MYFKncd7iDg,  GoodKnitKisses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDSBwq8ZtWM ) :

The one that I just finished this morning, I used the green knifty knitter with a bulky 5 loops & threads (similar to Homespun) yarn.  Here is what I called a modified e-wrap: I used the normal e-wrap cast-on.  After the cast-on, I took the loop off of every other peg, putting onto the peg next to it and knitted off.  This leaves every other peg open.  From that point, I e-wrapped as normal EXCEPT skipped those empty peg.  This made for a very nice, open mesh type stitch.  This will be great for photo props!

I love making these and learning more about how I want them to turn out each time.  I am experimenting on more ideas and patterns for these. My next hope is to play with some mohair yarn with these! Has me very excited!
